On April 18, 2020 the Decree of the President № 274 “On temporary measures regulating the legal state of foreign nationals in Russia taken in relation to the spread of COVID-19” (the “Decree”) was issued and came into force.

Pursuant to the Decree in case the migration documents (the list is provided herein below) of foreign nationals staying in Russia expire within the period from March 15 till June 15, 2020, the “validity of the term period shall be suspended until June 15, 2020 (inclusive)”. In other words, the term of validity of “migration documents” shall be considered extended until the mentioned date, June 15, 2020 (inclusive).

Hence, the term of the following documents shall be extended until June 15, 2020 (inclusive):

  • visa;
  • permission for temporary stay;
  • residence permit;
  • migration card containing the dates of expiration;
  • work permit;
  • patent.

In case the companies registered in Russia have the permit to engage for work the foreign nationals expiring within the period (from March 15 till June 15, 2020 (inclusive)), the expiration of the said document’s term shall be suspended until June 15, 2020 (inclusive).

The explanatory note to the Decree contains the clarification of that the above mentioned prolongation does not require any additional documents to be issued by the authorities or obtained by the foreign nationals staying in Russia.
